Brewstone was a game jam project created within a week for the University of Portsmouth Game Jam 2020. The themes for the game jam were randomly picked, leaving us to create a game where you brew potions and curl them at ghosts.

The team consisted of 4 members, winning 3 awards, including Best Overall, Best Game Design and People's Choice.

My Tasks Included:

  • UI Designer, creating the potion brewing interface

  • Created all 2D art using Adobe Illustrator

  • Basic C# programming for UI functionality

  • Game design contributions

UI Design

One of my key responsibilities during this game jam was designing the potion brewing interface. We needed a system that allowed players to select materials while clearly displaying their remaining inventory. Since the robot had to brew potions on the go, I envisioned its stomach panel opening up to reveal a brewing station, giving players a clear view of the process. To maintain visual consistency with the 3D potion models, I decided that the interface buttons should also be 3D rather than flat on a 2D canvas. This led to an interactive design where players could press buttons directly on the panel door to choose which potion to create. Here’s the final result:
